Match the report number
The report number shown on the product record must match the document delivered with the piece. Where the girdle is inscribed, that number should match too.
Both laboratories publish a report lookup. Checking the number against the laboratory's own record is the one verification step we recommend to every customer.
Read measurements with carat
Length, width, and depth explain visible spread and setting compatibility more precisely than carat weight alone.
- Laboratory, report date, and report number identify the document.

- Shape, measurements, and carat weight describe the stone as cut.
- Polish, symmetry, and fluorescence describe finish and behavior.

A report is not an appraisal
A grading report describes the stone. An insurance appraisal addresses replacement value and may be a separate document.
Grading is also an expert opinion recorded on a date. Two laboratories can differ by a grade on the same stone, which is why the specific report travels with the specific piece.
